What is Homeopathy?

Homeopathy was founded by Dr Samuel Hahnemann, in Germany in 1796. It is based on the principle of ‘let like cure likes’. When peeling an onion, your eyes start to water, your nose starts to run and you may sneeze. In Homeopathy, a preparation made from onion (Allium cepa) can be used to treat someone with those symptoms

Homeopathic treatment often combines well with vitamin and mineral supplementation, lifestyle and exercise changes. These are tailored to the patient’s likes and dislikes.

What Conditions Can Be Treated with Homeopathy?

  • Most conditions can be treated with homeopathic medicines, often in combination with other therapies. This includes acute upper respiratory tract infections, ear infections, auto-immune conditions such as fibromyalgia and Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, as well as chronic conditions including migraines, irritable bowel issues, endometriosis and menopause.
  • Homeopathic treatment can also be combined with conventional medication.

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture uses specific points found on meridians to treat various illnesses. According to Chinese Medicine, the body’s vital energy known as Qi (Chi) flows through different meridians at different times. When there is an imbalance — too much or too little energy — a blockage results.

To remove the blockage, needles are inserted at specific points. Some people may have a lack of qi in certain areas, in which case moxibustion (heating with Artemisia vulgaris) may be beneficial.

How Does Acupuncture Differ from Dry Needling?

Dry needling is used only in trigger points, usually in musculo-skeletal problems affecting areas such as the back, shoulders or knees.

Acupuncture uses meridian therapy and therefore often uses points that are quite a distance away from the area of pain or dysfunction. It also treats a wider variety of conditions than dry needling.

Please note: Only sterile needles are used, with new needles used for every treatment.
